Leonard Nimoy (aka Spock) Writes an Open Letter Re: Middle East

Leonard Nimoy has written an open letter regarding the middle east peace (or lack of it) situation. Drawing on his experience aboard the fictional "Enterprise", Nimoy makes some interesting and valid points.

Personally, I think it's great and not "belittling" at all to compare real life issues with the writer's of Star Trek fantasy. Isn't that part of the reason writers write? To be able to make comments on social issues lightly covertly.

But then again, I am a writer and a fan of Star Trek.

Live Long and Prosper Spock!

the Rice Show: Illustrating Population Using Rice

What a fantastic way to illustrate some of the less-fathomable statistics regarding population and other data.

Piles of rice are formed based on stats of world events or current newsworthy ideas. After the exhibit, the rice is collected and given to the needy.

There is a new one based on climate change statistics.

Other stats include:
- the populations of towns and cities
- the number of doctors, the number of soldiers
- the number of people born each day, the number who die
- all the people who have walked on the moon
- deaths in the holocaust.

I'd have like have seen this back in 2009 when it was in Toronto. I'm only two years too late.
