Black Swan is about a controlled ballet dancer, Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), who strives to be perfect. When given the chance to take the lead in the latest production of Swan Lake, Nina must learn to let loose.
New dancer Lily has the free quality Nina requires and as they strike up a friendship of sorts, Nina must deal with the competition and difficulty the dark role of Swan Queen entails.
This movie is up for some awards: Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director.
I found the film to be interesting, engaging and well made. Like actually attending an actual ballet, I felt pressure to like it because critics like it. While I can appreciate the acting, and the score and even would highly recommend it for accomplishing what it sets out to, I didn't really like it. It did make me think about the story and consider various philosophical ponderings.
Ultimately, this movie was very well done, and thought provoking but I didn't really like it.
