James Franco is in talks to play the lead role of Kaneda, in a live-action remake of the 1988 film Akira, based on anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume cyberpunk manga.
Warner Brothers has chosen Albert Hughes to direct.
The setting is futuristic Manhattan where a Shotaro Kaneda has to stop his best friend from releasing Akira, who has the power to destroy the entire city.
I think more important than James Franco, is the news (to me at least) that they are remaking this great manga / anime / movie.
